A parasite or virus lives on a host organism. A host organism lives in either mutualistic (when both host and parasite get the benefit) or comenslistic (when only the parasite gets the benefit) association with the parasite.

The host organism provides food, habitat and the entire cellular machinery which a parasite or virus use to proliferate new parasite or viral organsisms. The parasite or virus colonize in the host organism and produces symptoms of diseases.
