What is the attraction or repulsion between magnetic poles known as?

The pole of a magnet that points north is labeled the north pole. The other pole is labeled the south pole. A magnet always has a pair of poles, a north pole and a south pole. Magnetic poles that are unlike attract each other, and magnetic poles that are alike repel each other.
