The increase in strength is due to the better load distribution between the fibers. The water binds the fibers, which results in increased attractive forces, preventing the fibers from slipping over one another; therefore, the strength of the material is increased.

You should never redesign your experiment. try and see what in your experiment you made a mistake on or try and test your experimemt with somebody else. see if they get the right results.
