When a virus infects a cell, sometimes it remains dormant while the cell replicates, allowing its DNA to be copied into each new cell before activating and producing virus copies. This is the lytic cycle. This cycle may result to the destruction of the infected cell and its membrane. The virus that enters the cell will take over its replication mechanism, makes virus infected DNA and virus infected proteins, and then lyses will break open the cells. It will allow the newly produced viruses to leave the cell that is being disintegrated already in order to infect other cells. This cycle is the most common method of viral replication.
