Which instrument, a cello or a violin, produces a higher-pitched sound? Explain your answer. ANSWER: A Violin produces a higher-pitched sound because the strings are thinner than a cello's strings. Thinner strings create high pitches. Since a Violin is shorter than a cello the strings are shorter too. Short strings create high pitches too.

{Pitch is affected by the length of the string.
Shorter strings produce higher-pitched sounds than longer strings.
The violin has shorter strings, so it will make a higher-pitched sound.}
