A researcher wants to know how much algae can grow in a 1 liter glass chemostat. She notices that the algae population stops growing after 24 hours. When she increases the concentration of nutrients in the inflow tube, the population size doesn't change. However, when she cleans the outside of the chemostat, the population grows larger.
