Once injected, testosterone, a steroid hormone, is transported through the blood wrapped in a polar protein called SHBG until it reaches the cells of the male reproductive organs. Why is it necessary to bind testosterone to SHBG? Why is SHBG no longer needed as testosterone crosses the cell membrane?
