RESPOND TO THIS DISCUSSION POST THOUGHTFULLY. RESPOND TO PERSON’s ANSWER The Question:

How do prokaryotic cells exhibit cellular differentiation? Describe one manner of differentiation and the purpose of such differentiation.

The Person's

Prokaryotic cells can differential in a few ways, but one of them is simply cell shape. Round cells are considered "cocci," yet they may be slightly flattened when they are together in a line. "Bacilli" are rod shaped, and "spirilla" can be corkscrewed or slightly curved. Spirochetes are a kind of spirilla with a helix shape, and vibrio simply have a slight curve. The differences in physical features give the prokaryotes different properties. A rod shaped bacteria, for example, gives the cell a greater surface area with which to uptake more necessary nutrients.
