Questions for Mutation Lab
I put all the tables below in pictures (that's what I was given)
Part 1:
Does it form a coherent sentence?
Substitute the letter “h” for the second letter “c.” Break the string of letters into groups of three and write the resulting sentence.
Does the sentence make sense?
How significant was the change?
Substitute the letter “f” for the letter “n” and the letter “k” for the letter “b.” Break the string of altered letters into groups of three and write the resulting sentence.
Does the new sentence make sense?
How significant was the change?
Remove the first letter from the string of letters. Split this new sequence of letters into three letter groups and write the resulting sentence.
Does the resulting sentence make sense?
How significant was the change?
How does this activity relate to DNA mutations?
Part 2
How are the amino acids formed from the codons in Mutation #1 different from those formed by the original codon pattern?
Mutations are caused by changes in nucleotide bases. These altered bases formed different amino acids depending upon nucleotide base sequence that code specific amino acids. Even though some mutations can have a more effect on amino acid coding, which can affect what kind of proteins are produced.
How are the amino acids formed from the codon in Mutation #2 different from those formed from the original codon pattern?
3. How do the mutations in your model relate to what you know about mutations?
4. Research: Research mutations and find out if they are mostly good and add to the advancement of the organism or if they are mostly harmful resulting in the damage or possible death of the organism, or if they are neutral having no effect on the organism. Give statistics and cite your source of information.
Part 3-table 3 it is in the pictures below
