4. Use your knowledge of the interrelationship between mass, volume, and the density of a material to answer the following riddle. You own a pawn shop. One day a person brings in a large, very irregularly-shaped nugget they found while prospecting. They claim it is solid platinum, an extremely rare (therefore valuable) metal. You place the nugget on a scale and it weighs exactly 1 kg. Being that the price of platinum is about $32 per gram, this nugget could be worth as much as $32,000 ... that is, if it is pure platinum. In your old chemistry text book (which you kept of course), you find out the density of platinum is 21.5 g/cm. By evaluating the information you have (mass of the nugget, density of platinum), how would you go about determining whether this irregularly-shaped nugget is pure platinum or not? What would the volume (in cms) have to be to confirm it is indeed pure platinum?
