White blood cells defend against pathogens in three ways. Firstly they release anti-toxins, which neutralize the effect of toxins produced by bacteria. The second way they destroy pathogens is by engulfing/ingesting them.

if egg is fertilized and the mother gets pregnant, progesterone starts preparing the uterus for the implantation. it starts building up the lining of uterus and make it hostile of the period of pregnancy.
