This problem set is simple: come up with every day analogies of cellular structures/components. The analogies should have similar functions in everyday life as we know it. Think of the cell as a city and describe for each cellular organelle or molecule what they would represent in this city. The purpose of this exercise is to make it easier for you in the future to remember alí the different parts that make up a functioning cell. Here is the list of cellular components you should find analogies to. Do not simply write the name of each analogy but also the function and how they are similar to the function of the cellular component. Nucleus: (analogy, explanation)
Endoplasmic reticulum: (analogy, explanation).
Golgi: (analogy, explanation)
Plasma membrane: (analogy, explanation).

Salmonella typhimurium is a food-borne bacterial pathogen that can cause severe gastrointestinal disease. salmonella is often phagocytosed by macrophages that normally destroy bacterial pathogens, but this bacterium is somehow able to prevent the complete maturation of phagolysosomes. salmonella is able to tolerate the low ph of phagolysosomes, and in fact responds to the drop in ph by secreting toxins that interfere with other cellular responses. which of the following differences would you expect to contribute to the survival of a bacterium within an salmonella-containing phagosome, compared to a healthy phagolysosome? decreased activity of acid hydrolases increased activity of acid hydrolases decreased import of h+ ions increased import of h+ ions my guess is decreased activity of acid hydrolases but i'm not sure.

What was dr. willem johan kolff’s first step in using the scientific process to invent the hemodialysis machine? he built the machine and tried it with various patients, collecting data about its effectiveness. when a patient’s kidneys failed, he wondered if it would be possible to perform kidney functions with an external machine. he researched and collected data about numerous patients who exhibited symptoms of kidney failure. he drew conclusions from studies of various symptoms of kidney failure, and drew a design for the ideal external blood-processing machine.
