When fuels burn in combustion reactions, they release useful thermal energy (heat). Combustion reactions are used to heat our homes, power most cars, and to generate a lot of our electricity.

Humans have been making practical use of combustion for thousands of years. Cooking food and heating homes have long been two major applications of the combustion reaction. They also help in the production of energy in thermal power plants and burning of Wax candle.

There are various disadvantages of combustion on the environment such as gas leaks, oil spillage, noise and air pollution. Incomplete combustion of hydrocarbons also results in carbon monoxide pollution. An odorless, colorless gas, carbon monoxide can be harmful to both the environment and to people.
