Explanation:In this answer, we will mainly discuss about the nitrogen cycle.Our atmosphere is made up of many gases, out of which 78% is dominated by the gas nitrogen.This is one of the essential constituents of all living organisms as part of proteins, chlorophyll, nucleic acids, vitamins, etc. The atmospheric nitrogen cannot be taken directly by plants and animals. Certain bacteria like Rhizobium and blue green algae or cyanobacteria present in the soil fix nitrogen from the atmosphere and convert it into nitrogenous compounds. This process is known as nitrogen fixation.Then comes the process of ammonification. The microbes now convert the compounds of nitrogen into ammonia.Then, this ammonia is converted to nitrite and then finally converted to nitrate. This procedure is known as nitrification. Finally, these nitrates are converted again back to nitrogen gas, which is known as denitrification. This nitrogen gas went back to the atmosphere.While, on the other hand, some of these nitrates are absorbed by plants. This process is called assimilation. It helps in synthesis of proteins in plants.Animals feeding on plants get these proteins and other nitrogen compounds. As shown in the picture, the chipmunk is feeding on the plants so it gets proteins and nitrates from these plants.When this chipmunk excretes, its nitrogenous waste materials is converted by bacteria and fungi present in the soil into nitrogenous compounds, which will be used by plants again. Certain other bacteria convert some part of them to nitrogen gas which goes back into the atmosphere.As a result, the percentage of nitrogen in the atmosphere remains more or less constant.Thus the chipmunk and bacteria plays a key role in the Nitrogen Cycle.
