The medulla oblongata plays an important role to initiate the physiological actions that takes place during fight-or-flight response.  

At first, medulla oblongata activates the sympathetic nervous system that release nor-epinephrine hormone that initiates flight-or fight response.

Then, medulla oblongata activates the parasympathetic nervous system that helps in return the body to back or homeostasis after the flight or fight response.
