The way to distinguish between animal and bacteria cells is quite simple - animal cells are eukaryotic cells whereas bacterial cells are prokaryotic cells. There are many differences between the two types of cells that can help you distinguish between the two.

Prokayotic Cells vs Eukaryotic Cells:
-Prokaryotes are very simple - they consist of cytoplasm, and only have nuclear material embedded in the cell. Eukaryotes are much more complex, with specific organelles that carry out certain tasks to keep the cell alive, such as the nucleus, which contains the genetic material inside, which is protected by a nuclear membrane. 
-Prokaryotes are unicellular whereas Eukaryotes are multicellular. 
-Prokaryotes reproduce through binary fission and mitosis while Eukaryotes can perform mitosis as well as meiosis in order to reproduce.
-Eukaryotes are much larger in size than Prokaryotes.
