There are three medications commonly used in psychiatric-mental health medicine namely: (1) Valproic acid or valproate, (2) Carbamazipine, and (3) Lamotigrine. 

Valproic acid works to inhibit the enzyme GABA transaminase which then will lead to increase in GABA concentration in the brain. GABA is an inhibitory neurotransmitter in the CNS and this can be attributed to the anti-convulsant properties of valproic acid. 

Carbamazipine is a sodium channel blocker which regulates seizure control by controlling tetanic contractions during seizures. On the other hand, this drug also has anticholinergic and antidepressant properties. 

Lastly, Lamotigrine works similarly as carbamazipine by regulating voltage-gated sodium channels and stabilize neuronal membranes therefore regulating seizure activity.
