However, they also help maintain water content because they lose a lot of their absorbed water to a process called TRANSPIRATION.

This transpiration process helps take water back into the atmosphere and cause rainfall in a rainforest. However, when trees are removed from an area, the amount of water supplied to that area via rain reduces as there would be no plants to absorb the water in the soil and transpirate in order to induce rain in the tropical rainforest. Also, due to low photosynthetic activities, oxygen is drastically reduced in that area.
