Phagocytosis

Phagocytosis is a process in which cell engulfs large fragments of matter into membrane bound vesicles called phagosomes, which are transferred to the lysosomes for enzymatic degradation. Single celled organisms use phagocytosis for nutrient uptake whereas in multicellular organisms it is useful in development, tissue modeling, generation of immune responses etc.
