There have been many lists of the Wonders of the World. The first known list was called the Seven Wonders of the Ancient World, which was based on guidebooks used by the ancient Greeks and only included places around the Mediterranean rim. The Greeks chose the number seven because they thought it represented perfection and plenty.

In 2001, a Swiss corporation called New7Wonders Foundation launched an initiative to choose a new list from among two hundred existing monuments. In 2007, one hundred million people voted online for their choices of the New Seven Wonders of the World. The results were:

Petra, Jordan
Christ the Redeemer, Brazil
Machu Picchu, Peru
Chichen Itza, Mexico
Colosseum, Italy
Taj Mahal, India

The Great Pyramid of Giza was named an honorary candidate in deference to the Egyptians, who were unhappy that the pyramid would have to compete with monuments such as the Statue of Liberty.

Your assignment is to create a PowerPoint presentation of one of the New Seven Wonders of the World that will outline a vacation for a traveler visiting that site. Using online sources, research the site and find out about its history. Why do you think it was included on the New Seven Wonders of the World? What can a traveler do at the site?

You should include activities at the site that would last for one day. List two other areas of that country that the traveler may want to visit during an additional two days of the vacation. Also, describe the transportation the visitor will have to take to the site from the community in which you live, listing travel times. You should also include recommendations for lodging and describe the type of restaurants a traveler may find in the areas.

Part 1
Create a travel itinerary to one of the New Seven Wonders of the World. Explain the history of the site and why it was listed as one of the world's seven wonders. Include two other places to visit in the country you choose and activities for a visitor at these locations. List transportation routes and recommendations for lodging.

Part 2
Create a PowerPoint presentation of your recommended trip to one of the New Seven Wonders of the World and two additional places to visit in the same country. You may use bullet points to illustrate the three sites the traveler will visit and to list the recommended hotels.

You should include photos for each destination to illustrate your recommendations.
