A couple of days ago, the local newspaper contacted me about the story after they heard about it from a social media post. Members of a Scottish heritage center were demanding an apology from the school for insulting our heritage. I explained my side of the story, but Mrs. Montville declined comment when the local paper tried to contact her. The school board defended the principal, of course. The superintendent said that the principal has the authority to determine if a student's outfit meets the dress code. One Scottish group has decided to create an authentic Scotsman outfit for me. They—and I—hope that the school will update the dress code and support students who want to wear formal outfits from their cultural backgrounds to extracurricular events. I hope my school will reconsider its guidelines in time for prom so that I can proudly wear my new Scottish attire.
