They may have been influenced by their parents, friends, siblings, or maybe even their idol, or star. There is always a reason that something is done--this does not change in criminal-like cases. A couple questions you might ask are: "Why did the criminal do this?" "What caused the criminal to be like this?" "What is the criminal's goal?".
