1. Pick a country (not India or the USA). Visit the United Nations Human Development Reports and look up the HDI for your country. Provide the HDI index value for your country and its world rank. 2. Compare the rank of the country's HDI relative to their GDP per capita (GDP per person) from the CIA World Factbook: GDP Country Comparison.
3. Review and consider some of the characteristics of the country that contribute to the HDI at the United Nation Human Development Reports such as health, education, gender, poverty, unemployment, and the environment. Provide reasons why the country is ranking higher (or lower) globally as opposed to their GDP per person.

EXAMPLE: The United States

The United States HDI is 0.915 and ranks 8 globally in terms of well-being.

The United States GDP per capita (PPP) is $57,300 (estimated 2016 value) ranking 18 globally.

The United States ranks higher in the HDI than in terms of GDP per capita. Looking at the HDI indicators, part of the reason for the higher HDI score are health and education. The United States receives high values in health with high life expectancy at 79.1 years average life span and low infant mortality of 5.9 deaths per 1000 births. The United States also has high levels of education with 16.5 years of expected schooling and 95% of the population over 25 years old has some secondary education (high school).
