PL HELPP M Project: Segments of the Travel Industry

There are six major sectors of the travel industry. Any community that wants to develop itself as a tourist destination needs to offer travelers services in most of these major categories to be successful.

Assignment Directions:

Part 1

Imagine that you are going to lead a group of travelers from a foreign country on a tour of your community. The travelers have never visited your community and will be arriving without any transportation, hotel reservations, or any particular plans for what they should see on their visit.

Your assignment is to lead this group of travelers on a two-day visit of your community. During your tour, you must include a service from each of the six major sectors of the travel industry that we studied in this lesson. You should draw on actual examples in your community. For example, the visitors will need a place to stay overnight, so you should recommend a few of the lodging accommodations in your community. Likewise, you should select places for them to eat their meals, choosing restaurants that are unusual and reflect the local cuisine. You should provide at least two activities for the visitors to do over the two days of the trip. You should also include prices for each of the activities, such as a cost estimate of the restaurant meals, hotel stays, or sightseeing tours.

Part 2

Write a four- to five-page paper listing your recommendations for the group of travelers. You should include one paragraph for each major sector of the travel industry and an introduction and a conclusion. You should also include at least one photo to illustrate your recommendations.

Assignment Guidelines:

Your presentation must fulfill the following requirements:

Cite specific recommendations for your travelers for each of the six major sectors of the travel industry.

Use real examples of hotels, restaurants, tours, and attractions in your community.

Give prices for the various recommendations you suggest.

Include at least one photo as part of your report.

Submission Requirements:

For all assignments, remember the following important elements:

Proofread for spelling, grammar, and punctuation.

Use complete sentence structure and standard written English. Do not use texting abbreviations or other shortcuts.
