Steroids are helpful in the treatment of allergic reactions or other autoimmune diseases; however, it has been shown (in horses as well as in humans) that it reduces fertility by lowering testosterone concentrations in the blood plasma and it slows down its production. Low testosterone results in decreased counts of sperm and abnormal morphology of the cells. Other problems include liver problems and hypercholesterolemia.
