Asteel steam pipe has outside diameter of 25 cm, wall thickness of 1.25 cm and length of 10 m. the outside surface of the steel pipe is maintained at a temperature of 160°c. the pipe is insulated with a 10 mm layer of fiberglass insulation (k = 0.025 wm-1k-1). the thermal conductivity of the pipe material is 36 wm-1k-1. if the insulated pipe is exposed to a wind flowing across at 1 ms-1 and 20°c, calculate the outside surface temperature of the insulation. notes: (i) properties of air at atmospheric pressure can be found in the back of the test script (page 9) hint: start by guessing the final temperature in the range of 30-50 °c.
