When simulating small molecules, others turn off the van der waal interaction between any atoms that are covalently bonded to one another, even though these interactions do exist in reality. (1) why do they do this? (hint: it has something to do with the time step). (2) how can they justify doing this? (hint: it has something to do with the differences between chemical bond types).
