2H2O(l) + Mn2+(aq) -> MnO2(s)
Step 3: Add H+ ions to balance out H.
2H2O(l) + Mn2+(aq) -> MnO2(s) + 4H+
Step 4: Add OH- as it is a basic solution. Must do it to both side to balance.
2H2O(l) + Mn2+(aq) + 4OH- -> MnO2(s) + 4H+ + 4OH-
Simplified to
2H2O(l) + Mn2+(aq) + 4OH- -> MnO2(s) + 4H2O(l)
Step 5: Balance the charges by adding electrons.
