In "An Investigation into the Mechanism of the Ritter Reaction" experiment

a. On the basis of the classes and your results, what is the most likely mechanism for the Ritter reaction of a nitrile with a tertiary alcohol in the presence of sulfuric acid? Explain your reasoning.
b. Write reasonable mechanisms for the alcohols and alkenes that reacted with benzonitrile to form the same product in the second experiment. If any alcohols or alkenes did not react, explain why.
c. The NMR and IR spectra of the product from the Ritter reaction of benzonitrile with 2-methyl-2-butanol are on the next page - interpret them as much as possible. Be sure to explain the numbers and sizes of the peaks in the NMR spectrum.

Identify one disadvantage to each of the following models of electron configuration: -dot structures -arrow and line diagrams -written electron configurations type in your answer below. (answer) -dot structures do not show the distribution of electrons in orbitals and take up a lot of space. -arrow and line diagrams take up a lot of space and make it difficult to count electrons. -written configurations make it easy to lose count of electrons and do not show the distribution of electrons in orbitals.
