The objective of the lab was to investigate physical and chemical changes. There were a variety of experiments where either a physical or chemical change would occur, and the students would record their observations and determine which type of change occurred, along with evidence for why they think that change occurred. Because there were 8 experiments, I won’t describe all of them. For more information about the nature of the experiments, refer to the table in the Data andResults section. Through conducting the experiments, students were able to use the data from each experiment to determine the general indicators for physical and chemical changes. For example, gas formation and formation of a new substance were common indicators of chemical change, and changes in the phases of matter were common indicators of physical change. Although it was sometimes difficult to determine whether a change was physical or chemical, using the indicators of physical and chemical change helped in identifying whether the change was physical or chemical. In general, the difference between a physical and a chemical change is that in a chemical change, the composition of the substance is changed, and in a physical change, it is not.2IntroductionThis experiment was conducted to determine/identify the different types of physical and chemical changes in matter. Physical change is a transformation of a substance in which only oneor more of the physical properties change; the chemical composition of the substance remains thesame. Chemical change is the production of new substance, which may have physical and chemical properties different from the original substance. I think that physical change will be evident in experiments that show no sign of chemical change. In some cases, determining whether a change is physical or chemical may be difficult, so this lab presents several experiments in which different types of physical and chemical changes will occur and will be compared and contrasted, along with supporting evidence for why the change is physical or chemical. After conducting each experiment, students will describe the experiment, record Note:Unable to copy complete practical
