A sample of an unknown solution was treated with dilute hydrochloric acid. A white precipitate was formed and was filtered and washed with hot water. A few drops of potassium iodide solution were added to the hot water filtrate and a bright yellow precipitate was formed. The white precipitate remaining on the filter paper was found to be soluble in a solution of ammonia. What two ions could have been present in the original solution
