A liquid mixture of a certain mole fraction of ethanol and a certain mole fraction of methanol was placed in an evacuated (i. e., no air) bottle and after many days is now in equilibrium with its vapor. Assuming Raoult's Law applies (actually, both activity coefficients are within 0.02 of unity), and that the mole fractions in the vapor at 25°C are yE = 0.166, and yM = 0.834. What is the mole fraction of each compound in the liquid at 25°C? (Note: E = Ethanol, M = Methanol)
