In contrast to #2, when neopentyl bromide, (CH3)3CCH2Br, spontaneously ionizes, it does NOT result in the expected neopentyl cation (CH3)3CCH2+, but something else. Show this. Warning: this is a two step reaction. Show both mechanisms.
