Using the ionization energy for sodium (495 kJ/mole), would a photon with a wavelength of 23.7 nm be able to transfer enough energy to the valence electron in a sodium atom to cause it to ionize if all of the energy of the photon is transferred to the 3s1 electron of the sodium atom? What would be the maximum kinetic energy of the ejected electron?.
