From Friday's work, we were practicing how to determine what an atom's oxidation number is. Looking at Friday's worksheet it is the opposite of the Gain/Lose column. But what does the oxidation number represent. An atom that loses one or more electrons will have a positive charge For example. Magnesium would want to lose its 2 valence electrons to complete an outer shell What does that oxidation of 2- mean?
