A stream of humid air containing 2.00 mol% H2O(v) and the balance dry air is to be humidified to a water content of 10.0 mole% H2O. For this purpose, liquid water is fed through a flowmeter and evaporated into the air stream.

The flowmeter reading, R, is 105.0.

The only available calibration data for the flowmeter are two points scribbled on a sheet of paper, indicating that readings R = 21.0 and R = 54.0 correspond to flow rates V⋅ = 42.0 ft3/h and V⋅ = 100.9 ft3/h, respectively.

a) Estimate the flow rate of the liquid water feed if the volumetric flow rate is a linear function of R.

i) V= ft3/h

ii) n= lb-mole/h

b) Estimate the flow rate of the liquid water feed if the reading R is a linear function of V^0.5

i) V= ft3/h

ii) n= lb-mole/h

Hydrogenation reactions, in which h2 and an "unsaturated" organic compound combine, are used in the food, fuel, and polymer industries. in the simplest case, ethene (c2h4) and h2 form ethane (c2h6). if 140 kj is given off per mole of c2h4 reacting, how much heat (in mj) is released when 12 kg of c2h6 forms?
