A student is doing an experiment to study the rate of reaction between vinegar and Alka-Seltzer. The experiment is done in a film canister. The
reaction produces CO2 gas, which builds up pressure inside the canister and eventually pops the top off. The time it takes to pop the top is what is
used to evaluate the rate of the reaction. In Trial 1, she uses a 1.0 g chunk of an Alka-Seltzer tablet in 10.0 ml of a 0.5 M vinegar solution at 20°C.
The top popped off in 8.34 seconds.
Give a method, other than changing the temperature, to increase the rate of this reaction.
In terms of collision theory, explain why the method chosen causes an increased rate.
