VOLUME-VOLUME STOICHIOMETRY Someone left a giant marshmallow suspended over a campfire flame while they stepped away to get
their chocolate and graham crackers for smores! The entire marshmallow combusted according to the
following chemical equation:
C12H22011 (8) + 12 O2 (9) ► 12 CO2 (g) + 11 H20 () + energy
If 8.0 liters of oxygen gas (O2) were used to completely combust the marshmallow, then a total of 8.0 L
of CO2 gas would be generated as product and escape into the atmosphere according to the following
calculation:
8.0 LO, X
1 mole O2 x 12 moles CO2 x
22.4 LO 12 moles 02
22.4 L CO2 = 8.0 L CO2
1 moles CO2
Is this an accurate prediction of the total volume of gas generated by this reaction?
