why can't plants catch a cold? i put; they don't have a immune system and not the same functions as humans.
the second question is; what is the advantage for bacteria that form endospores?

Endospore formation is usually triggered by lack of nutrients, and usually occurs in Gram-positive bacteria. In endospore formation, the bacterium divides within its cell wall.
