Sarah is conducting an experiment on the Law of Conservation of Mass and physical and chemical changes using food. She learned in class that cooking food causes both physical and chemical
changes. She decides that she will cook a banana pudding. She uses the following ingredients for her
experiment: 1. three Bananas 2. one (12-02.) box vanilla wafer cookies 3. two cups of whole milk 4.
four large eggs; and, 5. one cup of sugar. The total weight for all of the ingrediants is 3 pounds 10
ounces before mixing her ingredients. Sarah prepares her banana pudding and bakes it in the oven
until it is brown on top. She then weighs her banana pudding and it weighs 3 pounds 10 ounces. Why
does her banana pudding weigh the same? Why does her banana pudding not look the same? Explain
the physical and chemical changes that occurred as she baked her pudding.
