As a result, litmus is red in acetic acid, HAc, and blue in ammonia, NH3. a) Write the B-L equations for the reaction of acetic acid with litmus and for the reaction of ammonia with litmus. [Hint: each side of the equation must contain one acid and one base.]

b) For each of the above reactions, determine whether reactants or products predominate. Explain how you know.

c) Based on the information above, rank the strengths of the bases, Ac-, Lit- and NH3 from strongest to weakest. Briefly explain your ranking.
