You are in lab performing an experiment where you add solid vitamin C to hydrogen peroxide and observe the reaction rate. While you are collecting data, you notice that everyone's chemical reactions are going 5x faster than yours. When you look back at the directions, you notice that you were supposed to crush the solid vitamin C into a powder before adding it to your hydrogen peroxide solution. Why does crushing the solid speed up the reaction rate?
