Glucose-1-phosphate has been shown to be an allosteric effector of carbohydrate metabolism by inhibiting hexokinase and glucose-6-phosphate dehydrogenase, and activating PFK and pyruvate kinase. It also activates the enzyme that equilibrates Glucose-1-phosphate and glucose-6-phoshpate. What is the overall effect on a cell with high concentrations of glucose-1- phsophate?
