Carl must find the volume of a small toy dinosaur. First, he moves the plastic collar around the top of the graduated cylinder to the 50 ml line so it will help him measure the water he is about to add. He then fills the graduated cylinder with 50 ml of water. Then, Carl drops the dinosaur inside the graduated cylinder, and some water splashes out on the lab table. After this, Carl reads the new volume of the water and dinosaur at the top of the meniscus and determines that the volume is 65 ml. He then raises his hand and reports to the teacher that he has determined the volume of the toy dinosaur and it is 65 ml.
