All carbohydrates contain carbon, oxygen, and hydrogen atoms.

When you eat anything plant-based, your body uses a complex process called to turn carbohydrates into energy.

There are three types of carbs;

Monosaccharides: 1 sugar molecule

glucose, fructose, galactose.  

disaccharides: 2 sugar molecules linked together.

maltose, sucrose, lactose.  

polysaccharides: many sugar molecules linked.

starch***, glycogen*, cellulose**.

*how animals store glucose. They keep the glycogen in their liver cells.

** The structure of plant cell walls.  

***plants store extra sugar in the form of starch.
