Mary wanted to test to see if the length of a string affected the number of times a pendulum would swing. She tied her string onto a ring stand and made the
string different lengths of 10 cm, 20cm, 40 cm, and 50 cm long. She also
attached a weight to the string by using a paper clip and a penny. Mary pulled
the string with its weight to 60 cm high and let it go. She counted the number
of swings in 10 seconds and recorded her results
and completed three trials
for each length of string. Mary used the 10 cm string as a comparison to see if
the 20 cm, 40 cm, or 50 cm string would swing faster or slower. She used the
same type of string, the same paper clip and the same penny for each trial.
