Experiment 3: Wet granulation Rx Calcium carbonate 135 mg Sig. Prepare 5 tablets
Magnesium carbonate 100 mg
Sodium chloride 50 mg
10% Starch paste qs
Magnesium stearate 1%
Dried cornstarch 1%
* The prescription is to be prepared as follows:

1. Prepare the 10% starch paste by making a slurry with a small amount of water. To this slurry, add boiling water to the final volume and stir until a translucent gel has formed.
2. In a mortar, blend the calcium carbonate, magnesium carbonate and sodium chloride. Gradually with kneading and mixing, add the starch paste until a mass is formed that will
ball and stick together when squeezed, but will not be sticky and gummy.
3. Pass this mass through sieve # 40 and collect on a paper-lined tray. Dry the granulation in the oven set at 55 degrees Celsius then pass through sieve #40 again then weigh.
4. Calculate the weight of lubricant to be added (mixture equal amounts of dried cornstarch and magnesium stearate) then blend.
5. Package in a tight container and label.

Question 1: If the total weight of dried granules was 1,400 mg, compute for the weight of magnesium stearate space provided; no reference required) to justify your answer.
