Read the information about the extraction of aluminium given in the box below.
CO
The main ore of aluminium is bauxite. Bauxite is mainly aluminium oxide and
the impurity iron oxide. Aluminium is extracted from molten aluminium oxide by
the process of electrolysis. During the process, aluminium oxide is broken down
into aluminium and oxygen using an electric current. Aluminium is formed at
the negative cathode and oxygen at the positive anode. The process is expensive
because a lot of electrical energy is needed.
Use only the information in the box to answer parts (i) and (ii).
