The project MegaMergSortDemo included with the files for this chapter performs a merge sort 100 times on randomly generated arrays with 1 million six-digit integers. You should run this program on your computer, or on another computer, then share your results with the class and discuss each other's findings. The program displays the results as a list of 100 lines each with the time for one run of the program in seconds. You can cut and paste this data into Microsoft Excel, then use Excel to quickly determine the average, minimum and maximum values in the list. You should tell your classmates about the computer you used, and the average, best case, and worst case from the trial on your system. Which systems are fast? Which are slow? What seems to affect the performance of the sorting? Did anyone get unexpected results?
