Admittedly, we did not cover many portions of the Syllabus, for instance (so to speak) backup/recovery procedures. Here is a BACKUP scenario: Start the Recovery Manager by issuing
C:\Documents and Settings\MyDisk\RMAN RMAN is an umbrella application which, when initiated, allows among others to make a copy of the control file and the parameter file (spfile). I quote here from Beginning Oracle Database: RMAN first tells us that information about the backup will be stored in the control file of the database instead of a separate recovery catalog, a separate Oracle database dedicated to storing information about database backups. [...] Before we can make a backup copy of the database, we will have to prevent the data from being changed during the backup operation. We first shut down the database and then mount it without opening it for access: RMAN> shutdown immediate; [followed by:] RMAN> startup mount; NOW we can issue the command to save the existing database.

WHAT IS THAT COMMAND?
